Lisa was born in Bangor, Maine, where her family has lived since the 1890s. During college, she studied at the University of Maine and in Mexico City, Mexico, for her Junior year abroad. During her senior year at the University of Maine, she worked for Olympia Snowe as a congressional intern in Washington, D.C. In 1988, Lisa graduated from the University of Maine School of Law and also began her law practice at Vafiades, Brountas & Kominsky (VBK), where she has remained throughout her career. She became a partner at VBK in 1996.
Being a lawyer has allowed her to meet so many people from all walks of life that she never otherwise would have met and to help many of these people during some of the most challenging times in their lives.
Lisa’s practice is varied, but she currently focuses on personal injury law, wrongful death claims, and workers’ compensation law. Her favorite part of being a lawyer is that no two days are alike.
Lisa is admitted to practice before the Maine Bar, the United States District Court for Maine, and the Penobscot Tribal Court.
She is a former Bangor Humane Society board member and served on its development committee. She is also a former member of the Endowment Committee for Spruce Run, a local non-profit organization committed to ending domestic violence, and she served on the Board of Amicus, which provides professional support for people with disabilities.
Lisa is currently the President of the Board of Governors of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association.
Today, Lisa lives in Bangor and summers in South Gouldsboro, Maine. For fun, Lisa walks, rows at the YMCA, kayaks, and is an avid reader. She prefers fiction over non-fiction.
