Jane began her law career in 1988 and has been at VBK since 1996. Jane has been a partner at Vafiades, Brountas & Kominsky (VBK) since 2001.
All aspects of Jane’s practice focus on Family Law, an area she was drawn to when she took her first family law class in law school.
In 1988, Jane was admitted to practice law in Maine and before the U.S. District Court, District of Maine, and she is a member of the Maine State and Penobscot County Bar Associations.
Jane has been involved in several community organizations, including being a Board Member of the Maine Collaborative Law Alliance, Pine Tree Legal Assistance, Maine Association of Mediators, Equality Maine Foundation, and Bangor Area Visiting Nurses/Hospice of Eastern Maine. Jane has also acted as the Chair of the Fee Arbitration Commission and the Penobscot County Law Library Committee. She has been a Member of the Fee Arbitration Panel IV, the Grievance Commission, and the State Court Library Committee.
Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 1961, Jane grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. In 1983, she earned a B.A. (with high distinction) in Political Science from the University of Maine. She received her J.D. from Villanova University School of Law in 1986 and moved back to Maine that same year.
Jane lives in Veazie, Maine, with her wife and Samoyed dog. When not at work, she enjoys photography, movies, reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
